The Sixth Form at Tytherington was highly praised by OfSTED inspectors during recent inspections. They commented on students’ “excellent progress” and the “outstanding teaching” observed in the Sixth Form. Currently we offer AS/A2 levels in: Art, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Design and Technology, Drama, English Language, English Literature, French, General Studies, Geography, German, Health and Social Care, History, ICT, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Music, Music Technology, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, Textiles. We also offer new and exciting BTEC courses in a Diploma in Sports Studies (equivalent to 3 A levels), Finance, and ICT (equivalent to 1 A level each). In addition we will offer a Level 2 course in Health and Social Care (equivalent to four higher grade GCSEs) if there is sufficient demand. As a Science College we lead Post-16 learning in Science, Maths and ICT. After the GCSE examinations, prospective Year 12 students take part in an Induction programme to help them to make a successful start to their Sixth Form studies. The Induction Day will take place on June 29th 2011. Sixth Formers take part in a wide range of enrichment and extra-curricular activities, developing leadership and organisational skills which universities and employers look for in applicants. Since September our current Year 12 have, for example, supported or participated in Young Enterprise, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Sport, Lower School lessons, fundraising activities, Philosophy and Politics discussion classes, Journalism Club and Learning a language. On average over 80% of our Sixth Formers go on to University. Art Foundation courses are also popular, and some Sixth Formers go straight into employment. |
