Change of status of the school from Community School to Foundation School

Following a formal period of consultation and representation, governors have taken the decision to become a Foundation School with effect from 1st January 2012. Thank you to those parents and carers from whom we received positive responses during the consultation process; no negative responses were received.

The full proposal for change is still available on the school website in which are outlined the benefits of the change to Foundation Status, including:

• More influence over future building maintenance and improvements
• Ability to determine our own admissions policy allowing us to strengthen links with our partner primary schools, to consider places for siblings, and to respond faster to appeals for places
• Improved ability to raise funds for the benefit of the school whilst maintaining an equal share of Local Authority funding available to all schools
• Increased flexibility to include more local representation on the Governing Body
• Ability to establish a more effective relationship with parents
• Ability to establish a more equal partnership with the Local Authority
• Increased ability of the Governing Body to determine the future of the school

We hope this will be another positive step in the school’s determination to maintain high quality teaching and learning and to further improve outcomes for all our students.
